Local anesthetic
Procaine (procaine), its hydrochloride is called novocain (novocain). Its hydrochloride is white crystal or crystalline powder, odorless, slightly bitter in taste, followed by numbness, and easily soluble in water. Local anesthesia with procaine lasts approximately 1 hour. It has weak penetration into skin and mucous membranes and is not suitable for use as topical anesthesia. If procaine is absorbed in large amounts, it will have an excitatory effect on the central nervous system, and then turn into inhibition, manifesting as restlessness, convulsions, coma, respiratory paralysis, and a few patients have allergic reactions.
